Sunshine On My Shoulder

I
Haven't been painting lately but the other day I heard a John Denver song on the radio that I love.  Immediately a painting popped into my head.  I had to give it a shot I love the words to this song:

Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy
Sunshine in my eyes can make me cry
Sunshine on the water looks so lovely
Sunshine almost always makes me high

If I had a tale that I could tell you
I'd tell a tale sure to make you smile
If I had a wish that I could wish for you
I'd make a wish for sunshine for all the while

(Here's the painting, it's watercolour 16 x 20 on paper.)

Early Morning Stroll

Early walk on a country road.  Sounds like heaven to me.

Shore Birds

This is my granddaughter on the beach.  She is much younger here of course, this was taken from an old photo I found from Halls Harbour beach

Riding The Surf

I am so late with posting here on my blog, I have a bunch of new paintings to get on and then I'll be gardening for a few months.  This is my granddaughter on a horse.  I have a lot more time to paint and garden now that I'm retired.  There's got to be something good about growing old huh.

Comforting

This is another project for the About.com art forum I belong to.  The challenge of this painting project was to create a painting that conveyed a powerful sense of mood in a person(s). It may be a portrait or self-portrait, head and shoulders or full figure, but doesn't necessarily need to show facial features. There may be one person or several. The figure(s) must dominate the composition and the art style should lean more towards painterly and realistic than abstract. The size and medium were up to us.  I painted these figures in a scene showing the emotion of pain and comforting.

Little Molly

This is our sweet new kitty Molly.  She’s over a year old now.  She has large pointed ears and a wide face I think there is some Maine Coon in her because of her beautiful fur.  She has the personality of a 6 lb. Tornado and everything is a toy.  I painted the background in black first then painted Molly on the feather and I didn't like the way the black photographed so I touched it up with some rusty brown.  I find it hard to paint the background around the image.  I am quite satisfied with the outcome altogether though.  It's acrylics on 8.5 x 6.5 watercolour paper.   We got her from the SPCA we only paid $40. for her and she was fully loaded and ready to go.     She is a sweetie pie.

Christmas Card

This is a little Christmas card I've painted for this year.  It's in watercolour,  I've printed it on sheets of watercolour (two to a page).  Tearing the paper rather than cutting it makes a nice edge too.

Favourite Things

I'm a collector of beautiful things.  Sea shells, blue glass, things found in the woods like moss, abandoned nests, pine cones you know the kind of thing I mean.

Wash Day

Remember when no one had a clothes dryer but the sun.   Remember smelling the soap in the air as you passed by the clothes lines. Remember at night snuggling down into line dried sheets and pillowcases.  The good old days.

Raggedy Ann and Andy

9 x 12 portrait of the Raggedy kids in acrylic on paper.   Maybe most families have one or both of these little fellows in their history.  I know we do.

Molly in the Window

A painting of our new kitty Molly.  I tried to paint her front on but she isn't a good model so I painted her back on with her reflection in the window.  It's not perfect but I'll do better next time.

Come Through to the Deck

Acrylics on paper.  I did this painting last summer, it sold very quickly.  I was thinking I might like to try another version for myself.  I'm working on a portrait of my new kitty Molly now though.  She is a sweet little thing but not easy to paint.  She is a dark tabby with longish fur and a huge tail it's the tabby marking I find tough.  Oh well keep on keeping on I guess.  Josh Groban just came on the radio, I have to go listen.

Garden Photos

This is a photo of my "Dry River Bed Garden".  I dug it about 10 years ago it's about 55 feet long and 5 feet wide.  My husband made three bridges for it over the years, you can sort of see them the Hostas are blocking some of the view.  This is my kitty Nicholas AKA Sweet Kittyboy.
